After the previous blog post (the same day) my mother insisted we go to see the "phosphorescence or phosphorus" (as my mom calls it (sometimes says phosphorescence and other times phosphorus, which is actually an very dangerous element, look up white or red phosphorus to see more detail), even though I insist it is properly called bioluminescence (more simply bio- living -luminecence- emmitting light)).

Yesterday we took the ferry to ocracoke island (picture group 1) and, after finding a campground, went to the beach(picture groups 2,3)

Today we are going to take a ferry to cedar island (actually not an island, but part of the mainland)

Hi Patrick ~

The sea air must be agreeable to you (great photo of you from the ferry ride).

Same questions on the Ocracoke lighthouse as I had for the Hatteras lighthouse...(type of light used, were you able to go up in to the structure & is it still in use today??) Have any of the lighthouses utilized a Fresnel light or do they use newer technology?

Just wondering...does bioluminescence pertain to lightning bugs? Is that what you were looking for?

How does the game from colonial times compare to a DS?

There I go again w/ too many questions! If you wish, you can answer my many questions upon your return!

Our new puppy is named "Benny". He looks a bit like Bolt (from the Disney movie by the same name). We sometimes call him "Flat Benny" because he often rests w/ front and back legs completely stretched out and appears, flat! Our other dogs like him already!

Almost forgot to mention, Anderson has been sick too. He is still recovering from an ear infection and is taking antibiotics. I think he is going to feel much better today but he has been unwell since Saturday.

As of last night, the Placer County fire (Robbers) near Forest Hill and Colfax was 75% contained. It has been burning for about a week. Pretty awful...

I've enjoyed getting caught-up on your many adventures. What a great summer you are having! Tell your mom I am sending her a big (((HUG)))!!

Happy trails & tails,
~Annie

Qustion answers: "type of light used?," the light originally burned whale oil, then kerosene, and now it uses electricity "were you able to go up in to the structure & is it still in use today??)" we were not able to go in the lighthouse because it is in use today. "Just wondering...does bioluminescence pertain to lightning bugs? Is that what you were looking for?" the bioluminescence does apply to lightning bugs, however we were look ing for a glowing (faintly) algae "How does the game from colonial times compare to a DS?" it was what I chose to play instead of my DS, so yes it is pretty fun!

Hello Again ~

We love Charleston! There are several good museums if you are not tired of going to museums! One of my ancestors, my 5X Great Uncle George Walton Williams built the Calhoun Mansion. It is open for tours...for a price! Uncle George had to sell it when he fell on hard times, so it is no longer in the family...or I'd be living there! ;)

Hope you enjoy your day. Looking forward to your next blog post.
